The Askaris
These two mixed media sculptures are identical in size and are a representing askaris - swaheli for guards.
Situated in a double volume entrance hall on oposing walls the art installations only show their differnces once the observer puts attention to the various details.
Despite the sizes ( 220 x 240 cm each ) the panels seem to float in the space of the stairwells. Once daylight subsides the various textures and shapes
come to life as the encorporated lighting enhances the surfaces and shapes.
This was my first large scale commission and mile stone in my career as an artist.
